Chevrolet Cruze recalls 150K of hot check steering shaft

GM recalls the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze for steering, trans issues

Chevrolet it recalling General Motors is recalling about 150,000 of the 2011 Cruze compacts in North America to check that intermediate steering shafts covers were installed properly.

The Associate Press reported that the recalled cars that have automatic transmission will also have the transmission linkage installation checked. The Cruze is built for the North America at GM's plant in Lordstown, Ohio.

In making the move the check the Cruze, GM said it has no reports of crashes or injuries and that federal safety regulators have received no owner complaints.

It's a second steering-related recall for the Cruze. Some 2,500 in North America were recalled a month ago to check the bolt securing the steering wheel to the column after one incidence of a wheel caming loose. GM has since said it found no other improperly fastened wheels.

The Cruze is a key model for Chevy In April, for the first time, it broke into the list of top 10 best-selling vehicles in the U.S. with sales of 25,160.
